Problem of the Week

Updated at Nov 30, 2020 10:53 AM

This week we have another equation problem:

How would you solve 4(4u3)4=13\frac{4(4u-3)}{4}=13?

Let's start!

4(4u3)4=13\frac{4(4u-3)}{4}=13

1
Cancel 44.
4u3=134u-3=13

2
Add 33 to both sides.
4u=13+34u=13+3

3
Simplify  13+313+3  to  1616.
4u=164u=16

4
Divide both sides by 44.
u=164u=\frac{16}{4}

5
Simplify  164\frac{16}{4}  to  44.
u=4u=4
